When converting existing heating systems to zone control, a common problem is that the heat source cannot operate stably when only a single zone has a low heat demand. In such cases, the boiler or heat pump may start and stop too frequently, show unstable behaviour, or even enter a protection mode (for example, blockage-detection protection).
The DSVT_12 system offers a software-based solution with the “virtual hydraulic separator” function. The principle is that if only one zone requires heating or cooling, the control system automatically activates additional pre-defined backup circuits as well. This ensures the minimum required flow rate and load for the heat source, with separate configuration available for heating and cooling operation.
The function can be tuned for the specific building and system, based on the thermal characteristics of the installation. Its advantages include:
avoiding the need for physical modification of the hydraulic system,
eliminating the need for an installed hydraulic separator,
reducing instability during part-load operation,
the additional energy consumption is typically much lower than the cost of a hydraulic rebuild,
and at full load it can help compensate for the known efficiency loss of conventional hydraulic separators.
Its use is very simple:
on the HTML-based configuration interface, backup-circuit devices can be selected for each zone in a separate row, and assigned to the zone using a drag-and-drop method, with separate logic for heating and cooling.
The alert box indicates whether the function is active and, if so, which zone activated it. By default, the following message is displayed:
